2. Set-up
These tutorials featuring model RaRa, a long time muse of Peters, were shot around our hometown city, Melbourne. Peter discusses the lighting that he uses at night time, the cameras he will use, how he sets his cameras up, how he shoots them, plus a ‘fly-on’the-wall’ perspective on how he shoots on location. You get to see everything from start-to-end, and how easy it is to do it yourself!
All still photos are non-retouched, straight out of camera.
Special thanks to our stylist, Shiori, and assistant Damon.
Camera: Sony a7rii & Hasselblad X1D
Lenses: Zeiss Otus 28mm f1.4
Lighting: Rotolight Neo 2 & Profoto A1

Hi Peter great videos can you let me know what bracket
You were using thanks all the best Andrew.
Hi Andrew! We use this companies bracket for attaching the off-camera flash https://www.custombrackets.com
With the rotolight in this scene and the later ones with movement did you keep the shutter speed the same around 1/100 , 1/125?
Yes I stayed at 1/100 all night
I didn’t get what the ISO was in this shoot
ISO 2500
Hi Peter, I see that you had to let the Sony catch-up if shooting faster frames. Do you have any other tips and tricks to get the Sony to shoot faster? I have the same problem and sometimes it’s very frustrating. I think this could be one of Sony‘s weaknesses, but I have invested too much on it. 🙁
Hi Frank, I only have that problem when my memory card is nearly full, sorry I don’t have any other tips 🙁
Hi Peter love this shoot! I noticed with the A1 you used a bracket to pull the flash lower to minimize the shadows. Would a ring flash accomplish a similar look and feel?
Not really, the ring flash is going to fill the shadow under the neck and nose, it’s still a great look but different to the on-camera flash.
Thanks man! I didn’t think about that detail! I really appreciate It.
