Meika ACR v C1 v Phocus raw
Peter and the adorable Meika Woollard (Giant Management) are back again for this 2 part natural light tutorial, where Peter will show you how to see light on a models face, and then shapes the light using reflectors! He used Capture One for this tutorial as it has been highly requested, however he still cannot get his look in the software so it was taken with minimal settings so he can punch it up in post. Capture One was also very slow so we apologise some of the photos aren’t synced up from when he took them.
This is followed by Peter showing you the difference in RAW processing between ACR vs Capture One vs Phocus on the same image, and finally a retouch on the finished image.

😀 I think we can stop the requests for Peter to do Capture One tutorials. He’s just not liking it at all.
But, if you ever do Capture One in another video, please at least upgrade to version 20+ to get the better black/shadow/highlight/white sliders.
Thanks Rik, I’ve been told to upgrade the software but I don’t like it or use it so I don’t want to spend money on it. But if things change, I’ll upgrade it 🙂
Makes sense. If you do want to try a free version, they offer C1 Express. https://www.captureone.com/en/products-plans/capture-one-express/sony
It’s a license code that restricts the software to a single camera brand (sony or fuji); and you lose tethering and can only do catalogs. But the raw engine and adjustments look to be the same.
I expect you’ll like it the same, but the price is better.
thanks for this Peter! By the way, Capture One v.20 you can adjust black slider under HDR.
No worries, glad you enjoyed it 🙂 I’ve spent so much money on Capture One over the years and I don’t like it or use it so I don’t want to spend more upgrading to v20. But if things change, I might start using it more and upgrade
