A Fly-On-The-Wall With Bec – Uncut
We received a Volley from MJ asking if we could do a video of a full length shoot, no edits, just swapping of cameras, music playing as if we were just shooting not for a tutorial – so we did it 🙂 This is a full 50min shoot of how Peter and I normally work with music playing, banter and all. Peter then did a shorted version with a voice over giving commentary to the shoot.
If you like this style of video, please let us know and we will do more with different models.

being observant to how the lighting is set up
I also liked when you went thorough the mood boards for ideas
keep the banter
thank you
Absolutely I’d love to see uncut shoots. This is what I feel is lacking everywhere I look – we see polished, finished outcomes and little of the working practices – Thats why I come here, so see how “other photographers work” – albeit just one highly respected photographer and a handful of very talented and beautiful models – but its a whole lot better than nothing, and is very much appreciated.
As someone who works as a “professional hobbyist” ethic – if such a thing exists, its important to understand what goes on inside a studio – both a large, flexible cavernous space like Peter’s and also a small space with a low roof and light stands that cant quite sit entirely off the seamless, where overhead light is incompatible with the space, and there are no natural light sources. Its also important to understand the concept of working with models. I know, when I book a model, it tends to be for a period of 2-3hrs, so there’s little time for pre-shoot chit-chat, or post-shoot image review, as the model has to get back to her life, or on to the next shoot of day. It would also be great to extend the above video to see what goes on pre/post shoot – from when the model first enters the building, to when she drives out of the carpark.
This shoot was basically an hour long – is that typical, or short, or long? I’m paying around £70GBP per hour for a decent quality travelling model, so a 2hr shoot costs maybe £150 all in, as my small space is free. Burning paid model time over pre-shoot chit chat or post-shoot review doesn’t always sit well with me as a Scotsman with “deep pockets and short arms” – ha ha 🙂
Many thanks for you insight, Bec and Peter.
Warmest Regards
Guy
Thanks heaps Guy, glad you enjoyed this and we’ll be doing more shoots/ videos like this. A hour is typically all I need for shooting with a model I’ve been working with for a while, but we always have some pre-shoot chit chat too
