Fresnel Lighting – Overview
Peter received a question on Volley asking him his thoughts on Fresnel lighting, and while he owns many of them, he hasn’t used a number of them in years. This led him to bringing out all his modifiers from storage to have a play with both constant & flash lights with different Fresnel modifiers, to show you all the different effects you can get to create moody and constrasted images.

Magical.
Great tutorial!! loved it.
Hi Peter, You have absolutely nailed the images. I love Shay and the Fresnels, which are classed as harsh lights are fantastic and the skin tones they produce are incredible. I think that they may be my favourite light modifiers and the images you produced were fantastic. I think ‘Augustine-Jean Fresnel would have been massively impressed by the use of the lens bearing his name!
Hello Peter, did you take the wetplate shoot from the example you’ve shown? Is it real wetplate?
No, I took a digital photograph of somebody else’s wet plate of an 18% grey exposure
