Fresnel Lighting – Part 1

Peter received a question on Volley asking him his thoughts on Fresnel lighting, and while he owns many of them, he hasn’t used a number of them in years. This led him to bringing out all his modifiers from storage to have a play with both constant & flash lights with different Fresnel modifiers, to show you all the different effects you can get to create moody and constrasted images.

  • what a coincidence I was about to comment on youtube to ask if you’d ever done some Fresnel Lighting (and for years I would pronounce it freszznel instead of fra nell blissfully unaware the S was silent)

I’d only this week got 2 Books about George Hurrell who used Fresnel lighting for all the Hollywood Actors from the 20’s to the 90’s he is also credited for inventing boom lighting where he stuck a light onto a boom arm to get it positioned into the way he wanted and everyone started to copy him………I immediately thought that I would love to do Hollywood lighting with Peter Coulson style imagery.

I’ve only a single 150W Godox LED light and was planning on purchasing a Godox FLS8 Fresnel Lens that is compatible with the LED lighting. so I was hoping to see if I could get away with just the 1 Light and some V-flats never time I get the opportunity to do a shoot.
