Shay NYC
We recently got to catch up with Shay while we were in NYC for a quick shoot. As we don’t have a studio there, and it was a miserable rainy day, the only place we could shoot was in Peter’s tiny hotel room, just using the light from the window. As you will see, it is still possible to create amazing images even with limited space and light!

Shay is amazing!!
She is 🙂
Amazing images indeed! The collaboration of a great model and a great photographer is perfectly illustrated here. Thanks for posting this one, Peter!
Thanks so much
I love this shoot. Using the window and getting superb shots. Peter is such a great artist and the way he see light and works with his subjects is second to none. You can tell you all are having a great time.
Shay is great and is so talented.
I would have to admit if I was in the same spot I would have broken out the strobs. I don’t think I could have gotten the look you did.
Thanks for making these videos.
And finally Bec is awesome !
Thanks so much, I had a few lights I could have used with me but I wanted it a bit darker and grainy
Always a joy to watch you two work together !
( Why do I always forget to try some motion blur during a shoot ? I love the effect ! )
Thanks again. Cheers !
Thanks heaps, love working with Shay & love motion blur 🙂
When you do the blur, do you plan for it and set a custom setting in your camera or do you just adjust settings on the spot?
I just adjust the settings as I go depending on how much blur I’m after
I’ve discovered that I can’t get reliably sharp photos of models without any motion blur under 1/250 with a non-stabilized lens and it makes me nuts. Now that’s a good thing? Cool! Of all the spectacular models you work with, if I could shoot one it would be Shay. So special on so many levels.
Cool session, really enjoyed the vibe of session the images that resulted. I also love that the session shows how you can create great art with simple resources.
Rad seeing Shay in video seeing a small snip of her personality behind the photos. Continue to enjoy your teaching, explanations and thoughts behind what you are doing and why for the models in the moment and the viewers. Awesome you 3!
I need to shake up my style so very much to progress to where I want to be. All my angles and lines need to be /just so/, but this is a direction I want to head in where the look is much more haphazard. I’m just not brave enough to try it because I can’t quite wrap my head around the aesthetic and making it presentable. Which is to say, this was a wonderful shoot.
Don’t think about it just do it
So may idea’s in such a small space. Now I need to get a wider manual focus lens to use on the Leica.
Shay was just fantastic!
Thanks as always for the inspiration to try things out of my comfort zone.
Shay could cause a blind person to see again.
