Shoot Etiquette
Hi guys! Being Peter’s PA and organising his shoots with models, speaking to models all over the world, also previously being a model myself, I thought I will give you a run through on some general etiquette before, during and after photoshoots.
This is not gospel, just from my own personal experience, but I hope it helps you for you own work. And I am always here if you have any questions or would like me to clarify anything.
– Bec 🙂

Great info
Bec
Thank you for the informative chat. Lots of info to make the shoot a memorable one for both the model and the photographer.
Hi Bec
Such great information. Could you share that text with us. It sounds so professional,
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks
Eric
Hey Eric,
Thanks heaps, glad it was helpful 🙂 of course, as I said it’s not gospel and I always tweak it myself but feel free to steal any one liners –
Hey ***, My name is Bec, I am Peter Coulson’s personal assistant. I stumbled across your Instagram profile, and Peter and I love your look! Peter and his clients are always looking for new faces to work with, and were wondering if you would be interested in collaborating for a test shoot? For Peter’s test shoots, he always gets the model to select their favourite images from his story board folder, so he has a idea of what style they like and how they would like to be shot. We never do nude, and only ever work to a models comfort level and what they would like to do. The model always has the final say in the styling and feel of the shoot. If you have any questions at all please let me know, thanks heaps, hope to hear from you soon. Kind regards, Bec
Thanks, Bec! I always appreciate your input. More, please!
Thanks heaps Keith, more coming soon from me 🙂
Well done Bec! Super cool hearing from an accomplished model. The tagging discussion was particularly insightful. Respect for the model is so important as it is their face/persona going out into the world! Thanks for this vid!
Great info and insight!! So thankful for you Bec to share this with all. Definitely will review from time to time so it is fresh in my mind. Peter
Thanks Bec. Useful confirmation of how to proceed with a shoot.
Thanks, Bec! Great to hear your perspective from both sides of the camera. Very informative and useful!
Thanks Bec, Great info. Looking forward to more.
Hi Bec, If I’m paying a model for a 2 hr shoot Why do I have to provide her any images at all? Sure if she wants them from social media and how many 3-5 at max?
Thanks
Martin
Hi Martin, it’s fine to not give the model images if you are paying them but this should always be spoken about before the shoot
All of this is great information, thanks Bec! I seldom photograph humans at all in my work. I found out about you and Peter through your “3 things that make models uncomfortable” YouTube video. It was the cringeworthy humor that got me hooked, but Peter’s advice on inspiration and no-nonsense view of creativity keep me here.
Thanks for sharing your insights on working with models, it will come in handy if I ever decide to work with one myself. And thanks for helping us all grow as professionals and humans.
Thanks so much, so happy both mine and Peter’s advice has helped you 🙂
Could you cover the ins and outs of the model release form?
Thats very hard because model releases are a legal contract and are different in every country and what the images are been used for
Hey Bec, thanks for the great info. I booked two models from the agency to ensure that they felt comfortable and your comment about personal chaperone is helfpful. It also worked that one could change clothing while I photographed the other. Another upside was that they chatted freely as we walked to different locations for the natural light shoot, and gained from each other as they saw each other in the shoot. Best comment of the day was from both ‘I’d be happy to shoot with you again’. You guys have lifted me to a different level, and when overseas and sauced a model – for a day – there so much I had learned from you both – the shoot after lunch was extraordinary – we started early, walked to breakfast, walked to another location, shot twice on the way in the street broke for lunch – and then shot in the afternoon. that she had a friend with her helped create such a comfortable vibe. Thankyou, thank you, thank you for the sharing of your knowledge.
That’s awesome Max, I’m so happy the shoot went well. And also glad you enjoyed this video with my advice
